HELLMAN FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM
2009-2010
Application and Review Process
1. Complete: UC Davis Hellman Fellows Program Application Form (four pages).
2. Attach: A Curriculum Vitae including a Bibliography of your published work.
3. Attach: A Description of the Proposed Project in lay terms addressing the following three areas (limit: total of two single-spaced pages with a minimum font size of 12):
- Describe the proposed research/creative activity and its importance/relevance;
- Describe the proposed methodology;
- Describe the expected time frame for the project.
4. Attach: A Budget page describing how the Hellman Fellowship Program funds will be spent in the following categories including proposed budget amount (limit one single-spaced page):
- Equipment (including how the equipment will be used);
- Travel to a professional meeting (name/date/location of the meeting and state whether you expect to present a paper at the meeting);
- Salaries (describe the titles and duties of individuals who will receive a salary); and
- Other research-related expenditures (describe).
A Hellman Review Panel will be appointed to review the applications and make a recommendation to the Vice Provost --Academic Personnel for final decision.
Composition of the Hellman Review Panel
- The Academic Senate, via the Committee on Committees, will be asked to provide a slate of 7 recently tenured faculty to the Vice Provost who will select 4-5 panel members.
- The Chair of the Academic Senate Committee on Research will be asked to nominate several members of that committee, from which the Vice Provost will chose one as the COR representative to the Hellman Review Panel.
- The Vice Provost will select a representative from Academic Personnel.
Final Decision:
The final decision on recipients of the Hellman Fellowships will be made by the Vice Provost -- Academic Personnel, based upon the recommendations of the Hellman Review Panel.

Deans’ offices will forward applications to the office of the Vice Provost—Academic Personnel by 5:00 PM for referral to the Hellman Review Panel. |
June, 2009 |
2009-2010 Hellman Fellows will be announced and the Fellowship will start on July 1, 2009. |
