Academic Personnel has collaborated with UC Davis Extension to provide leadership training for invited faculty considered future campus leaders. The six-day series is comprised of lecture, discussion and exercises.

In the past, this program was only offered to invited Chairs who were nominated by the Deans. For the last several offerings, the group invited to participate includes both Chairs and tenured faculty.

Leadership Development Program

The Leadership Development Program is intended to enhance leadership at the faculty and department chair levels. It is designed to build on existing skills necessary to guide the organization in new and even more productive directions. The program uses case studies to connect broad concepts to specific behaviors, and is offered in a six-day block. The style and pace allow for application of new concepts and skills on the job, followed by feedback during sessions on what's worked and what hasn't--and why.

A benefit to this program is the opportunity for faculty and Department Chairs to share their experiences and perspectives, and to build personal relationships with peers. Previous attendees have commented that they enjoyed meeting with other Chairs, and looked forward to continuing those relationships.

The Vice Provost is considering ways to provide ongoing opportunities for alumni of the Leadership Development Program. The next offering of the Leadership Program has not yet been decided.
